Beyond the Clinic: A Mission for Grassroots Oral Health Awareness

With over 25 years of experience as an Orthodontist, my professional focus has evolved from clinical excellence to a deeper commitment: a community based preventive care.
This journey began in 2012 with a single awareness program at my son’s school, Vibgyor High. That experience solidified my belief that early education is the most effective catalyst for lifelong health. By 2019, I began these initiatives, delivering interactive sessions on hygiene, diet, and early detection to various schools. Joining the Lions Club in 2022 allowed me to serve a broader spectrum of communities.
The Power of Persistence I have learned that grassroots work requires more than just clinical expertise; it requires deep patience and trust. I once spent seven months building a relationship with a single school before they felt comfortable opening their doors.
From Programs to Partnerships A critical realization in my journey is that adhoc sessions are not enough. School curriculums are quite intense, and "one-off" visits rarely create lasting change. To achieve a real impact, oral health education must be integrated into the school’s routine.
Today, my work focuses on:
- Building Sustainable Models: Moving from occasional visits to continuous, health education.
- Community Trust: Leveraging word-of-mouth referrals from parents and staff to expand our network.
- Empowering Parents: Ensuring families understand the "right age" for orthodontic intervention.
I remain dedicated to my private practice, but my mission has grown.
As an Orthodontist, your focus on the ‘right age’ for intervention is a game-changer for families. Navigating grassroots awareness is challenging, but your dedication is making a real impact. Thank you for sharing such an insightful piece! ..
Exposure to health awareness sessions at a young age help in forming lifelong habits. We have seen you delivering these lectures over so many years. Wish you the very best in your mission of spreading awareness about oral health in the community.
