A Gift to Cherish For Long

As parents, we celebrate the big moments the top scores in board exams, getting into IIT Bombay, or leaving for Carnegie Mellon. This International Women's Day, my daughter gave me a gift which was far more meaningful. She wrote about her childhood memories of my orthodontic waiting room, and how they quietly shaped who she is.
In her LinkedIn post, she described sitting in the clinic as a child while doing homework, negotiating with me about retainers because she thought they were cool and absorbing real life lessons. She watched how I greeted every patient. She saw how trust is built over years. She sat through awareness sessions where I taught patients about oral health and hygiene and called teaching "the ultimate giving."
She called it "a masterclass of a lifetime in people, trust, and entrepreneurship."
I always wanted a big, welcoming waiting room for my patients. I never imagined it would also be a classroom for my daughter.
Three things her post made me reflect on:
- Let your children see you work. Not just the wins, but the effort and the care. That is where values are caught, not taught.
- Build spaces worth absorbing. Children take on the culture of the spaces they grow up in. Be intentional about what yours says.
- Stop editing out the ordinary. The everyday moments you overlook are often the ones your children carry the longest.
Her achievements make me proud. What moved me is her ability to find meaning in our shared, everyday life and carry that spirit into her own career. That is the real reward.

Fantastic takeaways and beautifully penned; all the qualities mentioned here, perfectly describes the Doctor which even I as a patient experienced!!!
Beautiful❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
A child is a true reflection of his or her parents
The growing child imbibes all around him and shapes up into an adult
For the parent there can be no bigger acknowledgement of his or her services when the child recognises them
It is really a boon to have kids like you have. Having said that , they have imbibed your simplicity & passion .
Best wishes to you & your family.
Doctor, It is wonderful writeup. The point about the importance of Everyday time spent with the kids resonates with me.
This is such a beautiful reminder that children are always observing more than we realize. The idea that a waiting room became a “classroom” is deeply moving.
This is about parenting, presence, and a lasting influence. It also reflects in the way you handle patient’s queries and address all our concerns. Your clinic has energy and strong vibes.
