The Power of Imagination

After attending the last session of the first day of the 43rd Indian Orthodontic Conference which happened in Mumbai, I was waiting for a taxi with two friends. A colleague watching us leave suggested we join the convocation ceremony of new Diplomates. None of us joined the convocation ceremony that day. During my return journey I thought, "why don't I become one myself instead of watching others receive theirs?"

I distinctly remember, when I was working with the late Dr Prem Prakash he once mentioned the importance of being a Diplomate. The ride was almost one and half hours long and during this ride I made the list of 29 patients on my phone who could be the potential cases to showcase my work during the Diplomate Exam. The preparation for this was difficult. Being a clinician, I had to balance clinic work while applying the academic rigor of this exam on all the potential cases. The power of imagining the end in my mind made my dream a reality. Having a vision of myself to become a better orthodontist, in the work which I like doing so much, helped me persevere. I will say it was completely worth all the effort.

I want to share this story since I have used the power of imagination in various stages of my life, like appearing for the PG entrance exam when I wanted to get into the department of orthodontics, while writing a chapter on financial independence in the book Design by Destiny and many more. In all of us lies the ability to take action if we can only imagine what we want our future to be.

You can schedule a consultation appointment with Dr. Seema Bansal for more informantion.
