Teeth whitening or teeth bleaching is the process of lightening the colour of teeth.

Facts related to teeth whitening:

  1. Teeth whitening must be delayed as much as you can because these agents are abrasive and can cause enamel deterioration over time. This not only results in teeth sensitivity but also makes them more vulnerable to teeth decay.
  2. A dental professional performing teeth whitening knows how to avoid damaging the teeth during the process and knows how to provide the best outcome. So, avoid using the home whitening system which may lead to sensitivity, pain and less desirable results.
  3. If getting the whitening done, it should be done before any dental procedure. Teeth whitening can only work on the outer layer of your teeth. It cannot bleach any artificial teeth, bridge and/or veneer etc.
  4. Results usually last from 6 to24 months. The results also depend upon the food choices and the oral hygiene habits of a person. Avoiding consumption of tobacco, teeth staining drinks or food can make the results last longer.
  5. One must stay away from teeth staining drinks for the first twenty-four hours after the procedure.
  6. Certain foods and drinks such as citrus fruits, soda and coffee can increase teeth sensitivity. Avoid them for a few days before and after your teeth whitening.

  8. Minimum age for tooth whitening should be sixteen years.
  9. The duration of teeth whitening treatment is not the same for everyone. Some take more time to achieve the whiteness they want. Heavily stained teeth can be whitened to a specific level only.It will always be better to start the procedure a week before your event.
  10. Though teeth whitening is safe and effective but using a wrong method may lead to permanent damage of teeth. One must avoid getting this done quite often.
