Today in the waiting room of my clinic, I asked one of my patient on which topic I should write a blog. She suggested this topic. I really liked it and thought of why not?

It is very easy to be a happy patient. The result of this treatment will be seen through-out your life, so please do take care of your appliance.

After initial insertion of appliances, patients undergoing the braces treatment, are called for regular check-ups. These are usually at intervals of 3-6 weeks and are for making adjustments in the appliance. The frequency of appointments is based on tissue response to orthodontic pressure, and this varies in different individuals and for different types of treatment. Every possible effort is made to see that appointments do not conflict with the school, college and /or office working hours of the patient.

  1. It is important to keep the appointment as scheduled as any delay in the adjustment to appliances can result in excessive movement of teeth which can cause pain and damage to teeth and gums.
  2. If patient is unable to keep the appointment because of illness, please call the orthodontist office for cancellation and for rescheduling the appointments. Habitual failures to keep the appointment results in prolonging the treatment time.

Patients who are Happy with the treatment, follow the below instructions:

  1. They are regular with all their appointments
  2. They brush as they are instructed by their orthodontist
  3. They avoid eating food which are harmful to braces
  4. When scheduled for headgear or other removable appliances check-up, they always carry with them the appliances as otherwise it will result in a wasted appointment.
  5. They do not fiddle with the appliance

Orthodontic appliances are delicate and one must take care of them so they can function properly.

Your smile, which you get is a lifetime reward for having been such a great patient. After all, like we say that it is up to you !
